I'm running the 2021 Edinburgh Virtual Marathon to raise money for Spinal Injuries Scotland (SIS). SIS is a charity that works to break down barriers that prevent opportunities for people with spinal cord injuries through initiatives such as extensive peer support as part of their free membership network, free legal and welfare advice and close work with hospital spinal units across the UK.

This is a cause very close to my family’s heart. In 1978, my uncle was in a swimming accident and became a quadriplegic - meaning he was paralysed from the neck down. SIS work closely with the Southern General Hospital Spinal Unit, who helped my uncle live as healthy and independent a life as possible. Just before his death in 2016, my uncle also had the opportunity to stay in SIS's converted, wheelchair friendly farmhouse for a holiday with his sons and grandson. The trip was a highlight of his latter life and a fond memory for all of the family.

Thank you very much in advance for any donations that you can make - it is helping to fund the fantastic work that SIS does. if you'd like to find out any more about what they do, please feel free to reach out to me or check out their website.
